Personal Writing...
This week we’ve looked at writing in correct sentences.  We know that sentences should only contain one main idea or statement.  When we want to start writing about a new idea, we need to use a full stop and a capital letter to start a new sentence.

Write me a short recount about a time you were really scared.  Focus on keeping to one idea or statement per sentence.  Read back through your recount to make sure you’ve done this and edit as necessary.

Spelling

Practice your spelling words!!!  Copy each word out 5 times.  Put 5 of them into sentences.  Look them up in a dictionary if you’re not sure what they mean.  Spelling test every Friday.

Term One Week One - Due Thursday 4th February

Personal Writing...
The focus of writing for Homefun this year is mileage: the more we write, the better we’ll become.  Most weeks your Homefun will include a writing activity designed to help you practise the writing skills we’ve been learning in class.

This week I’d like you to write me a piece of writing on any topic you like.  A recount from the holidays, an imaginative narrative, a persuasive argument - you choose.  I want to get an idea of what sort of writing you can create on your own - so do your best!

Waitangi Day Research Task
This Friday 6th February is Waitingi Day, which marks the anniversary of a very important event in New Zealand’s history.  Do some research on the history of Waitingi Day to answer these questions: 1) Where is Waitingi?  2) What is the Treaty of Waitangi
and what happened after it was signed?  3) Who signed the treaty (two main sides - names not necessary)  4)  Does the Treaty affect modern day New Zealand? Why/why not?

Basic Facts and Place Value
The focus for Homefun Maths is building our Basic Facts and Place Value knowledge.  Each week you’ll take home a Basic Facts and Place Value practice sheet and each Friday you’ll be tested.  You need to get 90% on the Friday test before moving on to the next stage.

Spelling
Practise your spelling words!!!  Copy each word out 5 times.  Put them into sentences or copy out their meaning from a dictionary.  Spelling test every Friday.
